Questions You May Have.

What type of counselor are you?

My Master's degree is in Biblical Counseling. Biblical counseling is a type of pastoral counseling which is Christ-centered and based on Scripture. I am not a licensed professional counselor, and I do not make diagnoses. I strive to be clinically informed, and therefore have taken trainings and earned certifications in various psychologies that are available to, and legal to be practiced by, non-licensed persons.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a trauma treatment modality. It can be highly beneficial for processing and releasing trauma. From brainspotting.com: "Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Brainspotting (BSP) was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. Over 13,001 therapists have been trained in BSP (52 internationally), in the United States, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and Africa. Dr. Grand discovered that "Where you look affects how you feel." It is the brain activity, especially in the subcortical brain that organizes itself around that eye position."

Do you accept insurance?

I am not licensed with the state of Wisconsin and therefore do not accept insurance for payment.

Are meetings confidential?

Adhering to strict confidentiality is important to the strength of the counseling relationship. I will only share information about you with others if you have signed a Release of Information for a specific person or if the situation demands it as I am a mandatory reporter. Those situations relate to the safety of you and those around you and are outlined in the Informed Consent form you will sign before beginning a counseling relationship.

What about secular psychology versus Biblical counseling?

My Master's degree is in Biblical counseling. I receive regular training via conferences from the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation. I also have training in various secular psychologies. God uses his Word to instruct and convict us, to share with us the story of redemptive history, and to communicate his great love to us. There is also freedom in his grace for embracing secular treatments in a Christian way to promote greater healing and understanding of how people tick. I do not believe we need to approach secular therapies with fear. (Also, please note this is a six sentence paragraph on a conversation that could easily take more than six hours. Please ask me if you have questions.)
